I need some help... My PS pump wasent ligning up with the pulley on the engine. So shimed it with 1 small shim. Put my alternator back on, and now the belt is rubbing on the PS pump. Everything else is ligning up perfect..
Any Idees?
Take that shim back out, and use a power steering pulley puller to slide that pulley out the required distance. The power steering pulley is pressed on that that shaft has about an inch of contact with the bore in that pulley. Pulling it out enough to line up the pulleys would not hurt anything.
My pump is miss-aligned as well. It's never thrown a belt even with many road racing days on it. I would just remove the shims. You may want to try a shorter belt on the alternator. You are at the limit for adjustment and between that and the long belt gives it an angle that touches the PS pump. A shorter belt will move the part near the PS pump closer to the crank. I think I tried several progressively shorter belts until I got a good length.
Just removed the Shims, and it wasent so bad as I remembered....
Just wantet it to be right on. Lost one of the belt, and it took the 2 other belts off as well. That Engine temperture sure rise quick....
From your picture, you have your alternator adjusted all the way "out" away from the engine. Get a shorter alternator belt and this will position the alternator higher away from the PS pump.
