My 1977 c3 started overheating out of the blue.
I've replaced
the water pump
the fan clutch
the thermostat
the hoses
flushed and re-flushed
and it still overheats, maybe they sold me a faulty water pump.
Any advise would be appreciated.
First, what temp are you seeing on th gauge. During the hot months it's perfectly normal to see 200 degrees.
When did you change all those components? There may be air trapped under the T-stat giving you a false reading. How long are you driving it before you shut it off thinking it's overheating?
Does the car have the chin spoiler in place under the nose of the car? That's a very important part that scoops up air and shovels it up to the radiator.
Do you have good sealing all the way around the radiator? The seals above the core support that contact the hood are very important as well.
These seals are what keeps air going through the radiator instead of around it.
i just replaced those same items and the radiator on my 79 and it still overheated. found out that the distributor mechanical advance wasnt working, and the vacuum advance was froze up too. rusted up., go figure. no advance as engine rpm increased, retarded timing, overheated pretty quick. i replaced the hei with a new one. now it stays on 200°, even in traffic with ac on. good luck.
