Default Front End Shimmy

On my 1968 , when I hit about 55 mph I have a shimmy in the front end, when I increase to abour 60 or above it appears to go away. Any idea what to look for ?? Tires have been checked for balance they are O.K. , and have put on new shocks , still have the issue !

Lots to check here. Were the wheels balanced static or dynamic? That's the first thing I would want to know. If they were balanced dynamic and check out ok, I would start looking for free play in the bearings, tie rods, etc. I wish I could simply say "Hey THIS is it" but there are a few possibilities on something like this.

I would turn the steering wheel back and forth about a 1/4 turn in each direction with someone under the car looking for worn tie rod ends, ball joints, and steering linkages. Sounds like something is worn out, or a combination of wear from several components.
