Gary....keep postin'....you've been very helpful to alot of people.
I agree with filling out the profile. The guys here can hook you up with local experts who can help you out. Kind of hard to do when we don't know where you are.
Looks like to me you have 2 choices. The cheap way is to buy a used differential (see parts section) and swap it out. I personally would rebuild the entire rear end as in, rebuild the diff, Trailing Arms (Van Steel), New Spring, Brakes, U-Joints, etc.... The biggest risk of doing the rear end rebuild is that these OFTEN turn into body off projects. Mine started as a front end suspension rebuild and now I have a frame sitting in my driveway!
I've personally never driven one with missing circlips like yours has, but I would imagine it might feel a bit squirrely on certain bends, on the other hand, you might never notice a problem.
Good luck with it!
I've put about 40k miles on my '69 since I bought it in '79. I just recently found out that since I bought it, it's never had the c-clips. I've never noticed anything "squirrely" about the way it handles.

Well that's good to know! Like I said, I've never driven a vette that I knew had "loose" side yokes, so wasn't saying for sure that it was going to be a nightmare on the road. Only that with nothing holding the yoke in I can imagine it might be noticeable if you cornered and the inside wheel had the ability to move out un-hindered, I guess particularly noticeable when you came off the corner. BUT having said you'd be needing a pretty unusual set of conditions for that to happen. Plus, under most conditions the tendency is for the yokes to be forced inward, rather than pulled out. After all, that's what causes them to wear in the first place.
Who knows. All you can say is that the c-clips were put there for a reason (or not in your case )
Why are you lurking here then?? You trying to steer members to another Vette Forum!!!!
VettePower, you need to simmer the h#ll down. Gary is a much valued and greatly appreciated forum member. Why in TF did you post your idiotic/childish post above?
Totally uncalled for.
If I remember right you were involved in another BS thread where you were individually calling out members for "modding" their vettes not in accordance with your taste. Perhaps you should stop getting drunk & typing on the computer?
