Original plating was Cadmium type II (Gold type I is Silver.) Cadmium is hard to find now because of its highly toxic nature. Zinc type II plating can be found in most major cities or try the Eastwood paint system (I don't think very highly of Eastwood system but better than straight rattle can Gold spray paint.) I had my headlight and winshield wiper door actuators Zinc plated years ago and they came out pretty good.

Cadium DiChromate. You can use the Caswell plating kit to replate the actuators, or there is a Bob Demmel in Texas that is doing a bang up job plating them
