Default Crossmember Modification

Hey All,
Plan to modify my transmission crossmember to facilitate the removal of the 2.50 exhaust system from headers, rearward, in one peice. It will involve fabricating a removable "bottom portion" of the holes where pipes pass through. Has anyone made up such a part? If so, could you post a picture to get some reference from. I think it is a worthwhile modification, but would like some ideas as to best way to accomplish the mod, without it looking too "Bubbafied". Any help is appreciated.

This is a picture off the www.dragvette.com website. Opening up the exhaust portholes is good for dropping the pipes straight down, but doing what is shown enables you to straighten out the pipes. I haven't done it, but plan on making a change next time exhaust needs replacement.
