Check this out, I was driving down the road when my oil pressure suddenly dropped to 0. Then my engine stalled. I cannot start my car now. It cranks, but won't turn over. I added oil to the engine, but no joy. Any help out there???
Could be a lot of things, very few of which are good.
If it was not hot or making a load banging noise. I would remove the dist cap and make sure the dist is turning you could have broken the shaft to the pump or lost the dist gear.
Need a lot more info to help much more.
temp, noise, voltage...................
When you say "it cranks, but won't turn over", you mean the engine turns over, but it won't start, RIGHT?
Did anything dramatic (loud bang, grind, etc.) happen when the oil pressure dropped?
Basically, the crank turns the timing chain, which turns the cam, which turns the distributor, which turns the oil pump shaft, which drives the pump.
I would think a broken timing chain, or a stripped gear (between the cam & driveshaft), or an oil pump dropping into the pan would all be very noisy events
An oil pump problem wouldn't necessarily keep the engine from starting, but a broken timing chain or distributor problem would.
orrrrrrr heres a good one how bout it has a oil pressure switch installed and you dont know it, wired through the switch and the wire for the distributor and when it drops below a certain pressure and shuts ignition off.Mybe the shaft broke, oil pump seized, lost oil pressure and now it wont start back up.
orrrrr its way too early for me and im thinking over my head :jester
