I have a rear right (pass) break pack that is shifting when the breaks are applyed. It's like the bolts that hold the calipers to the wheel are worn. I'm looking for Ideas on how to deal with this short of changing the complete caliper; ($) Or perhaps someone might have one in good shape that they would sell. Oh yes, its for a 81 Corvette. Thanks for reading and any help you can offer.

First take it apart so we know what worn parts we are dealing with.
Spell check...BRAKES!

I'm not sure if it is your pads or your caliper that you are referring to but If you tighten the 2 caliper bolts and they don't grab and tighten then the threads in the trailing arm are stripped. If this is the case you can install Helicoils to fix it. This will keep your caliper from moving.
Hi The bolts on the calipers on the rear thread into the trailing arm, but Im still not sure if you are referring to the pads or the caliper moving. Please let us know.
ok! It sounds like when a u-joint is going. I took it to a shop and had them look at it. Lot of money!! It is the complete brake pack that is shifting. I didn't think to ask if the pack was shifting due to enlarged holes or worn bolts. They said the caliper pack needed repairing. Just seeing if this is something someone knows about and perhaps someone might have one around in good shape they wanted to sell.
Thanks for the help.

I've never heard the term "brake pack" before. Either the pads are moving or the caliper is moving. If the caliper is moving, either the bolts aren't tightening, or they're the wrong bolts. It sounds like maybe it wasn't assembled correctly. Not enough information to give a conclusive response.
theres NO SUCH THING AS A "BRAKE PACK". do you mean caliper,, or rear spindle,, and they have to re-PACK the bearings? if you use the right terms people can assist you,, if not,, then not. C.
I am saying that the caliper AND the pads are shifting as a unit. I'll not be able to answer for a week or so fellas, have to go to the VA in Portland, Oregon for by-pass tomorrow.

Ok now we understand that the entire rear caliper is moving.
First try to tighten the the 2 caliper bolts which secure it to the trailing arm.
If they continue to spin and do not tighten the threads are finished and you will need to insert Helicoils.
Make sure you buy the 7/16" - 20thread count Helicoil kit. Do not buy any other kit.
The drill bit has to be 29/64.
Go slowly when tapping and blow out the metal shavings.
More importantly..... best of luck with your bypass and hope you have a speedy and successful recovery so you can get back to fixing that caliper issue.
