Default Engine height after solid motor mounts.

Has anyone else installed solid motor mounts and found that the motor's position was lifter about an inch? I will still have clearance under the hood but the headers are closer to the rocker panels and I'm wondering if this might affect the drive line.

anyone had a higher engine position after installing Moroso solid motor mounts?

Can't comment about solid mounts as I have NEVER used them on any car...but, fresh rubber mounts will raise the engine by pushing an inch in height.....easy......and yes, it WAS a problem untill Ifinally modded hell outta my cross support and ditched those damn holes, ran the pipe under it now....cutting out the lower loop....so much better, it's a joke....

PM/email for a pix, I dunno how to post it here....

Well, I know the rubber mounts that are coming out are still good. no slop, they look fine, and even with the serpentine pulley I had almost a full inch of clearance over the cross member. Now though, with the solid mounts there are two problems with fitment. The ears are just a bit too narrow for the barrel so I just widened them a bit in the vice. The hole for the bolt is also about an inch lower.

So, I have a few options.

I can run it as is with the extra inch of height.

or...

I can drill holes center to center an inch above the lower ones.

What mounts are you using?
I used these from Jegs;

Moroso 62500

I found they fitted straight in (maybe a slight tap as the "ears" were a bit tight on the chassis), but no change in height over my old poly-mounts.

NB. After I placed my order, I noticed that there's another solid mount sold by Jegs, which is listed for Big Blocks and Corvettes. I thought I'd fangled my order but as mentioned these ones I have popped straight in.

Yep, those are the exact same mounts I was using. I just don't want to put my drive line in jeopardy.

Are you sure the mounts you took out were right for the car. chevy raised there engine to get the ujoints at a slight angle, ford offset
the rear third member. chrysler offset the engine, think about the angles they use on four wheel drive vehicles.

Yeah, I bought the originals specifically for a 1977 Corvette about ten years ago when I rebuilt the motor.

As long as you have clearance between the trans tunnle and the
top of the bellhousing, no problem. you did leave the rubber trans
mount in did not go solid ??

NAPA sells a decent mount that has a hook/something arrangement in it so engine can't escape the mount easy....put one in a year ago or so....about #3 on the torque/driver's side in 12 years now....

I"m leary of solid mounts, all that vibration on the mount horns, all that shaking....engineering 101, don't stress the merchandise.....

I"d even take urethane over solid....but that's ME, not a drag racer....

I have replaced my rubber mounts with new rubber ones with no change in anything, then I put in Moroso solid mounts and again, no change in anything, motor sits right where it sat before. I am going to try poly next

There is something wrong with what you are doing, all the proper mounts for your Vette should not change anything. There are 3 or 4 solid motor mounts from Moroso for small block Chevys make sure you have the correct ones for your Vette

Yeah, I didn't touch the trans mount. It's still the stock rubber one I put in when I rebuilt the motor last.

Unless the wrong mounts were put in the right package, I have the right ones.

I run the morosso solid mounts and find the engine sits the same as the poly mounts. I installed the solid mounts because my engine was torquing over too hard and I also wanted the block to act as a stiffening member for the steering box.
I experience no vibration and feel the motor revs crisper.

So, should I...

...drill some holes that would leave the motor at the original height...

...install and let the motor sit higher than it did before...

...or sell these mounts and buy another set hoping they would fit better?

I just bought some Moroso solid mounts too. Haven't installed them yet. But I needed to raise my motor up some, the crank pulley is so close the crossmember that I couldnt get my belts off.

I actually ordered part 62530, according to Moroso thats the number for Vettes.

See I already had about a full inch between the crank pulley and the cross member.

My engine sits in the exact same spot with the Moroso 62530 mounts. I'm thinking you got the tall mounts by accident.

Matt. You may remember that I used those solid mounts and had a problem so I took them out and went the poly route. For some reason, the bottom bolts wouldn't tighten up flush to the block on either side . I didn't have any problem at all with the poly mounts.

Scott - The biggest reason for installing the solid mounts is to stiffen things up a bit in the front. I plan to install a heavier duty swap bar and a spreader bar but those are not going in for a while. This was to be a cheap and fast way to stiffen up the front.

Aside from the frame location hole being too tall, the block bolts all went in perfect. I'm looking for the purchase information from Summit to see if they will exchange them for the right ones. Looks like the the tall mounts are in the wrong packaging.
