Default ammeter question

gauge showing discharge,SLOWLY,WHEN ANY ACC. IS ON.Alternator checked,off car,ok.Lights brighten when engine revs,battery at full strength.Pulled gauge cluster,connnector clean and tight.Any thoughts appreciated.....JC

Do you by chance have underdrive pulleys on there? RPM is about the only thing that will affect charging voltage the way you describe. Could maybe be a diode open. That will not necessarily show up on the autozone test, they spin it at normal speed, not idle

, probably a bad diode trio. Look into having it rebuilt if it's a numbers alt. If not, consider upgrading to a CS130 or CS144.
