Default Can you adjust the spring tower height?

In reference to the early style hood latch system, and the spring towers, can you adjust the height?

I have the latches positioned and where they need to be but when I close and latch the hood it sits about .25" too high. It will push down lower but the stop won't catch it lower than that.

On the tip of the spring tower cone is a notch like a standard screw driver but I cannot get these to turn. They do look as though they are threaded at the base where they go into the flange but like I said I cannot get them to rotate or screw in further.

Any ideas?

Edit: It's definitely threaded, so why won't either of them rotate?

Thanks.

Matt, that tulip shaped piece that holds the spring in place/concentric, is also a jamb nut...loosen it, and the stud should turn then...maybe rusty by now....but that's the design....

I have the old latches off my car now, with reversed hood hinges they are useless to me now....

Thanks, I'll give that another try. I messed with those thinking the same thing but it didn't move so I assumed it was supposed to stay where it was. I guess they either have never been adjusted or the powder coating the previous owner did has bonded them together.

I got the set off of Ebay very cheap and just installed them.

If that works I think I'll be set.

Thanks.

The aftermarket L-88 hood on my 69 stood about 1/8 inch too high on the passenger side. The pin/stud was adjusted all the way down, so I borrowed the right die and cut more threads on the pin. Now, it sits perfect. If yours won't adjust down far enough, you have that option.

Did you have to, or will I have to, cut a coil or two off of the spring? I would think it would bind if I adjusted it down too far.

Thanks for that tip, do you remember which die it was that you used?

I didn't have to modify my spring and it works fine, but that may be an individual thing. It is something you can fit as you go. I don't remember the size die, it was several years ago that I did it. Only thing I remember is, I didn't have the right one and needed to borrow it from a buddy. Put a caliper on the stud diameter and count threads. It is fine thread and not a size die you will often use. With any luck, you will have enough adjustment without making additional threads.
