I have recently acquired a 76 Stingray and while driving it to work this morning I realized that my headlights come up and go down REALLY slow.
As a matter of fact I got tired of waiting before the left one made it up. Then it took like 10 minutes for the right one to go down.
I was thinking it could be clogged vacuum lines. I don't hear any hissing which leads me to think that there isn't a vacuum leak. Does anyone have any suggestions?
The first thing to do is test your vacuum at all points. Check up front by the actuators and relays. Check at the brake booster. Check every port on the carb and manifold.
Make sure you keep track of these numbers because they can help you determine if you do in fact have a leak and where.
Go to this site and open the link that says C3 Vacuum System by Vetteworks. It might help you find the problem. As DB says, install a vacuum gage at the actuator and start moving backward in the system. A likely cause is a bad relay valve.
Slow movement of the headlights is due to lack of vaccum. There could be several causes-vaccum leak, actuator problem(look at the seal that looks like a witches hat), or an engine problem if you have engine mods that could effect vaccum.
