Default shifter/linkage positioning when installing

Does anybody know what the correct procedure is for hooking up the linkage and shifter for a 75 4spd after everything is all mounted in place? I have been messing around with it for awhile now, but nothing I have come up with seems to be working.

Can you be more specific on your question? If you have a shop manual it will show you which rods go where.

There should be a notch in the shifter box for a 1/4" rod to be inserted when the shift lever is in neutral position to line up all the shifter levers. You then adjust the rods to fit the shift arms on the transmission. I remove the shifter after adjusting it on the workbench, install the trans and then install the shifter frm the passenger compartment on my 72 Vette. I may be wrong on the rod for a factory shifter but, I think it is the same as a Hurst for adjustment.
