Default Engine Tilt/Position

What is the correct dimension from the carburetor air cleaner stud to the firewall? I'm finally getting around to adjusting the shifter location and exhaust pipes that rattle against the frame. I installed a Richmond Gear 5 speed a few years ago and had to tilt the engine a few degrees forward so the Hurst shifter linkage didn't hit the transmission xmember. I'm ready to fix these problems but want the engine & tranny in the right place first. I don't see any of this info in the AIM.

Has anyone else had a problem with the Hurst Shifter and clearance with the cross member? The car is a 1968 427 4sp. coupe.

Thanks,

TT

I would think that the front/rear position of the engine is determined by the engine mounts. Have those been modified for some reason ?

Engine mounts are stock and correct. The transmission mount at the frame cross member determines the tilt/angle of the engine transmission assembly. You can make angle adjustments with shims at the tranny mount far easier than at the engine mounts. I'm going to lower the transmission mounting bracket 1/2 inch or more and then raise the shifter with a new shifter bracket. I just want the angles to be correct.
