Default Fuel Cell volume calcs

I've been tossing around the idea of a fuel cell in the stock location for my 68. I figure with the Merlin 509 I'll be running out of gas every 15 or so feet.
I'd love to get a tank with 30 plus gallon capacity but i highly doubt that will ever fit in the stock location. Spare tire carrier is out and I'll do custom brackets and make a shield underneith to protect it from road debris.
My questions.....check my #'s as I don't have to deal with volume calculations much when preparing a balance sheets and income stmts.
I think the measurements I took for the space is...
35 inches wide x 14 inches deep x 12 inches high.
I can go to 14-16 inches high but 12 is a good starting point.
http://grapevine.abe.msstate.edu/~ft...s/vol/box.html
says I get 5880, i assume this is cubic inches. Yes?
Then when I want to convert this to gallons I used this...
http://grapevine.abe.msstate.edu/~ft.../convertv.html
This tells me if the 5880 is cubic inches then that equates to 25.455 gallons. Am I on the right track here?
Using the same method above, if I increase the height to 16 inches that gives me almost 34 gallons.

I've yet to find a poly fuel cell to fit the demensions of the vette even if it were to hang low as that would lower my center of gravity (no, its not a track car but I like to fantasize) Anyone do this without having to mod their frames? or pay a million dollars for one of those custom fuel safe jobbers??? Just in the brain storming phase.

that's going to add a lot of weight. one gallon of gas weighs 6.152 lbs, times 34 gallons that's 221.408 lbs of fuel.

calcs are correct . . . your mileage may not be that bad. mine is about 11.5 around town and 12.5 best highway with a 489 ci, th400, and 3:55 rear

Most fuel cells are small because drag racers only go a quarter of a mile before refueling.

What you might be looking for are circle track fuel cells. Go to Summit or Jegs website and search. You'll find some that are 32 gallons.

The problem with these, even if they fit, is that they probably won't align with your filler cap.

If I were you and wanted that capacity, I'd just enlarge my tank.

There are 231 cubic inches per gallon. There are many marine and equipment sources for poly fuel tanks. Keep Googling and see what you find.

Guess I'll have to stop complaining about that whole wheat pasta crap huh to save a few pounds.

Thanks guys.
I looked at all the fuel cells that summit and jegs off for both circle track and universal.
I'll keep my eye out.
Thanks
