I caved
Well, my brake skills are lacking. I tried rebuilding the calipers and all i ended up with was a mess of brake fluid and paint. (caliper paint is brake dust resistant but not fluid resistant i guess 
)
so i ordered the new calipers from vbp with red powdercoating along with stainless steel flex lines. it put a good ding in my driveway savings but i'm just going to have to suck it up and get hardcore on savings after the car is back on the road. no more upgrades for a long while. on the plus side, my brakes should be good to go for at least the next five to ten years. so i won't have to sweat it until i do a frame off resto-mod.
