Default whats the secrect to remove

the gas pedal from the accelerator rod? A seemingly simple task I thought Didn't want to hit the pin to hard & break something.

Thanks

Jim

If I remember right the spring holds the pin in.
EDIT-here is a link to the pin.

It's sort of an interference fit into the rod. I had to use a hammer and punch to remove one, and the pin bent in the process. The new one slid right in. It's much easier to disassemble if you remove the rod/pedal assembly from the firewall (three bolts).

On my 68 I remember removing the spring (that keeps the accelerator petal from flopping around on the pin) and just pushed the pin out. When I did this, I did have the entire accelerator pedal mechanism out of the car. My big problem was putting the spring back on. I should have drawn a picture or something before removing it. After a lot of desperate trying, I went out to my 70. It's pedal was too close to the carpet to see the spring. I put my fingers behind the pedal and felt the spring and was able to "see" it's orientation in my head. (It was easier to "visualize" the orientation of the spring with my eyes closed.) After this I put the spring back on with no trouble.

I agree with the above message that this job is a lot easier with the entire mechanism out of the car.

Spring holds it in but easier to remove with the pedal out of the car.

Thanks

I had it out on the workbench. Used a drift pin and a hammer. I sprayed it with some PB Blaster. I'll try again next weekend with a bigger

Thanks

Re-assembly if it's in the car is real treat. You will have to use electrical tape to hold the spring in place on the rod while you get the pin thru everything, unless have a lot of dexterity & patience.

I'm not sure why you'd try. The pedal assembly is only held in with three bolts - it's about the easiest thing under the dash to take out.

Especially with no dashboard or wiring harness in the way
