Supposedly the way to find the best place for a crossover or X-pipe on any exhaust system is to take a crayon or grease pencil, and run a line from the flange to the muffler. Then start the engine and let it warm up to operating temperature. After shutting the car off, look to where the line you drew has disappeared. At the spot where it again becomes visible is where you install the crossover or X.
I don't know the theory or physics behind it, but it's what a car magazine several years ago reported in a test of crossover and x-pipes exhausts...if you believe what a car mag writes.
You have to compromise beetwin what's the best and what's the best 'posible' place where to fix the X pipe, my humile opinion is just after the crossmember...
