Right you are Mike, I wish I didn't run out of video for that run.
Now as far as my ASR kicking on, when you take a turn at 65 mph which is meant for 20 mph, you would expect the car to break loose. Now I know how to break a car loose, but more important, I know how to keep it under control when it starts.
Dave, as far as the C3 suspension design being 40 years old, you are absolutely correct, but so is the C4 design as well as the C5 design. The C5 design is just an evolution of the same design we all have. It is different in the materials used and size, but still the same basic design.
Sure a C5 can out handle a C3, if it can't either the driver is a wuss or every C5 owner overpaid for a fat C3.
Don't forget driver skill has a big part in how a car can handle turns. Mike knows how to drive his car as well as I know how to drive mine and I'm sure as well as you know your car. But you mentioned that your C5 would take turns at 90 that would leave your 68 in the weeds. Have you ever had your 68 in the weeds? Then how would you know for sure.
Most of us have pushed our cars to the breaking point and have gotten lucky that we didn't lose control. Others have tried to overdrive their cars and have ended up in a ditch or worse.
I also want to mention that Mike has some damn good brakes on that 69. We had to make a panic stop on I-95, he was behind me, the first thing I thought was,"Aw crap, he's gonna hit me", but I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that he was able to come to a stop while maintaining the same distance he had at 80 mph.
Just so you know Dave, we aren't trying to pick on you, just letting you know that unless you know, don't talk about someone else's car.
Yes, I've been in the weeds, not only from sliding on dry pavement, but from sliding on wet and even icy pavement - remember I've owned my car for a very long time. In fact, I think I've replaced every part in that car at least once.
The statement that started this whole thing was my observation of Mike's tires. I never thought someone would get so defensive of S-rated tires. My neighbor bought the same tires as Mike's (76, completely restored) and when I asked him how he liked them 6 months later, he yold me they were a joke - squeeling like a pig at not-too-high speeds. Of course, I already knew that would be the case, since I've had similar low-speed tires in the past.
I guess the lesson here is that if you see a sportscar with S-rated tires, don't try to educate the driver unless you know that he or she is willing to accept info that could improve the car's handling. If I decide to throw in some drugstore oil in my car and you notice my doing so, go ahead and ask me why I'd do such a thing. I promise I would not get offended and try to compare my maintenence knowledge to yours.

Dave... I worked for Goodyear for a couple of years during college... you are not educating me about tires but you certinaly are educating the rest of us by showing your colors. ohhhh, and my tires don't squeel unless I want them too. Even in the twisties.
HaHa frank, your taillights??  :smash: :bs
