Default caliper rebuild failure

OK....just for fun, I thought I would try to rebuild a front caliper that had a little leak. I ordered a reman caliper Friday from Van Steel....but over the weekend I got the itch to work on the thing. I picked up a seal kit, broke it down, cleaned, etc. The one leaking piston had a bit of corrosion.....not much....I was able to make smooth again. Bores were already resleeved with stainless sleeves!!! Nothing much wrong except a few shiny spots. I prepped them with 600...looked great. Seals went in the correct way the first time !!.....installed, bleed in shop...all seemd OK. Pulled it out of the shop this afternoon and as soon as I hit the brake, I knew we had issues!! Three of the four blew out. This seemed so straightforward.....what could I have done wrong.:o

Are you sure the piston seals are in correctly. When I did my calipers I soaked the seals in the brake fluid and when I installed them I had to use a small flat tip screwdriver and tuck the seals in so the lips were all down properly. Double check each of the seals. The chance of 3 out of the four caliper bores being that bad is hard to imagine the way you meticisouly prepared the bores.

Yep....seals installed with lip pointing down.......the way that makes them hard to insert if chamfer is not generous....as mine were. I had to carefully help them in. I did have a correct piece of alum tubing handy to make a device to use in my press to seat dust seals, so that was easy. I think that somehow the seal rolled or was out correct position......I can't see how else they blew so easy. I moved them up and down numerous times...they seemed OK.. Oh well...

Default about 10 years ago....

I read somewhere that suggested using locktite to seal things in....it's worked great for me. I also always buy the higher quality rebuild kits.
