I was working on my heater blower motor (that has never worked) I hooked up the original power and the ground wires and here is what happened….Turn the fan switch on and the key on and nothing. Turn off the key and the fan starts running.
I have a diagram and it shows that the ground wire comes off the starter so I am thinking "self you don’t know what is going on in the starter"…..Ok so I will take the ground from the starter off and run a jumper ground and see if the motor works correctly… Low and behold turn the key on blower motor comes on turn the key off blower motor shuts off. I know what you are saying about now “OK so run a ground and be done with it” That would be all right but I need to know for my sanity where and why when wired with the original wires it works backwards. Is it back feeding power from somewhere if so from where? And before you ask to the best of my knowledge the fan switch appears to be wired correct, going by the wiring diagram I have.
To me this simply sounds like a faulty ground. THat can truly lead to all sorts of bizzare behavior. I have had the radio come on when I hit the horn due to a ground issue. Faulty ground can wreak havoc.
Someone had the thing apart once and instead of connecting the ground back to the bellhousing bolt, put it in the starter stud, it looks like it fits there. Happens all the time

Ok I can go with that, but the diagram shows the ground from the heater motor going to the starter. Are you saying that the frame ground may also be on the starter ?
I am just trying to figure this out so I don’t become one of those “I saw a vette on fire today” posts
