YeeHaw!! Got this thing fired up tonight, first time it has jun since last July.
Got a long way to go before its on the road, but at least it makes noise now. Fired forst time I turned it over. Set Static timing, 10 gallons in the tank, filled the carb and it fired up and idled.
Thanks Guys. I got to say I never expected it to fire up that easy. I still need to do a lot of stuff to get it to even move. But I am getting closer. Filling the carb bowl with a big syrenge and static timing had to be the reason it fired up like that.
Next up;
Finish up electrics
Service out and connect Torq COnverter to flexplate
Adjust out the valves and final timing
Figure out why I didn't get any Power Steering pressure
Thanks guys. It did surprise me how easy it started. Part of it was planning, part luck and some skill.
What I did was static time the motor, Used a timing light to get the timing mark somewhere above 0. That only took a minute or so. I then put some gas in the tank and you saw me inject gas in the carb thru the air horn. That step keeps you from having to crank and crank waiting for the pump to prime. The fuel system was all new and completely dry.
All that removes the guessing as to why it isn't starting on a new motor.
Spend a little extra time to make sure there are no open vacuume ports, I still have the tranny disconnected so I only have to deal with the motor right now. Tonight I cleaned up the electrics a little bit and got it ready for tomorrow. Tomorrow I'll roll it out in the driveway and run it long enough to break in the cam.
Then attack all the rest of the list....
