Default New Carb in 77 with original engine

A quick question from a first timer. My new edelbrock carb has an electric choke. Where is a safe power source for the electronic choke?

Anything IGN or ACC. On my '77 fuse panel I have a spot for a tap labeled ACC which means it's only on when the key is on. I used that for a fuse panel triggered by a relay so I have multiple IGN leads.

An easier tap is the yellow wire from the wiper motor wiring. It's an IGN only wire that's easy to get to and close to the carb.

Use that one to start.

Which direction is ACC with the key?
I had always considered it to be with the key turned back towards the driver, which would not be my first choice for an electric choke.
The choke source should only be hot when the key is turned to IGN.

I used the wiper circuit on my '73 as well but they only work with the key turned forward to IGN.

I'm Confused!!!..Shouldn't the power flow through a temp sending unit to vary the voltage to open and close the choke??

No, the spring in the choke reacts to the current from the 12V supply.

You need constant power at the choke otherwise it would close.

ACC is recommended and when the key is turned toward ignition it will provide power to the electric choke. www.edelbrock.com has a website that includes a video on the choke install and carb install check it out. Good luck.

As mentioned above, ACC is also the same position as IGN when the key is rotated forward. However, you can power ACC circuits ONLY by rotating the key backwards without turning on IGN circuits.

Basically there are two ways to power the ACC circuits and one way to power IGN circuits.

I just had my Q-Jet converted to electric choke, I wired it to the ACC plug on the fuse panel and works fine.

Pull the power to the choke from the wiper motor - it goes hot any time the ignition is "on" or in "acc" position. Do not take paower off of the hot wire to the coil or distributor.
