I bought a 69 from the forum here a few months ago and I finally got around to get a tapping noise checked out just the other day after having only put about 150 miles on it. Well, the passenger side valvetrain is pretty much destroyed and now it has a ton of shavings in the oil. The engine isn't the LT1 headed, forged shortblock it was made out to be so it really isn't worth trying to repair, especially since I was going to upgrade eventually anyway.
So my plan is to replace it with something along the lines of a 383 or 427 small block. Right now I'm leaning towards either a Shafiroff Ultra Street 434 HHR with 565 hp or a World Motown 427 with aluminum heads with about 520 hp.
I've heard that World has some horror stories regarding customer service, but do they have quality issues? Has anyone dealt with strokermotor.com (Dallas Export Service)? Is their stuff any good? They are located not far from me so it would be pretty convenient which is a plus. Are there any other good engine builders in the DFW area?
Reher Morrison in Arlington... one of the best in the Nation..not
just Texas... their Pro Stock team has beaten Warren Johnson and Bob Glidden and they do contract head porting work for NASCAR cup teams..
.... less than 30 miles from your house.... their quality is primavera..
They have some pretty impressive engines. They only have one small block listed and it looks like it needs racing fuel with it's 14:1 compression ratio. I might have to call and ask if they'll make a streetable version.

RM can build anything you'd like...
They sell most of their engines to Racers..but with their head expertise
...their street destined motors spank most others.
That is a nice looking engine, but right now I'm wanting to stay with a small block. I was even considering the aluminum 427 for the weight savings so going to a big block goes against my plan.
