Default Half Shaft fell

While the thoughts of selling crossed my mind I was on my 3 mile weekly cruise last night and my rear right half shaft dropped on me, looked underneath and it was just hanging there. What could have happened? U joint? And can this be replaced out in the street in front of my house? Can't get it in my garage because of the big hill called my driveway. Help, thanks.

If you can get a jack under it get a better look, Could be U-Joint bolt fell our, broke, whatever. U-Joint might be toast, the pin bearings usually scatter when it falls. Get under there and take a look

Frome what end did it fail T/A side or Diff side. I think it kinda rare you had no indication that something was wrong. Unless they get no mercy for a heavy foot.

Yea thats the thing, I haven't taken a good look at it. Saw it hanging off the differential side last night and my tow guy took it back to his place. I was waiting for a few people to get back to me so I can get it inside, but it looks like I am gonna have my tow guy bring it home and leave it in the street for now and take a closer look tomorrow. I just don't have much knowledge of suspension.

Diff side fell and honestly I noticed nothing to indicate a problem, that's what's baffling.

Have your tow guy stick that car inside your garage. Sounds like you have a bit of work ahead of you.

I wish I could get a tow truck up my driveway, to steep.

I picture would help a lot here.
It could be just a new Ujoint needed ... easy enough to do
with some decent tools on the side of the road.
Good luck

Replacing a u-joint is not an "easy" repair. From the sounds of the problem, have the car dropped off at a mechanic.
