Has anyone ever had shorting out and fuse blowing for the gauge lights, turn signal and rear tail lights (but not stop lights) when adjusting the tilt wheel?? This has happened twice now on my 81.....did not catch the actual cause the first time, but did this evening.
I would guess something in the turn signal? I think the horn is on a different fuse. Is steering column work as PITA as it looks in the books??
You probably have a wire that has been pinched or abraded and is shorting when you move the wheel. My son had a car that would blow the instrument light fuse regularly. The cause turned out to be a wire caught in the E-brake handle. He would drive to school - lights fine, pull up the e-brake when parking, no lights when he restarted the car. Took a while to find that one!
If you take the column apart you will almost certainly find a wire that has the insulation worn off.
Update....only the turn indicators were out, the signals still worked. I find this interesting....would have thought the indicator bulbs would just pick up the hots serving left and right exterior indicators. The prints also show the turn signals on a different fuse. So, just the tail lights and gauge lights. The key buzzer also stops with this fuse out.....hopefully, that may be the offender, as I can do without that for awhile.
