Install a pair of new belts and you'll be fine.

Plus you will still have a water pump in case one belt breaks

Now that's an idea. Mine is a single, but I could swap in a dual if I could find one. Any ideas? I checked a few of the usual places and didn't see any.

[QUOTE=84rzv500r;1562291510]You've your cogs on the wrong side of the belt!!

Used to be able to get v belts with the cogs inside, but haven't sen them in quite a while.

2 groove pully on the alt is the ticket.

Default I doubt that alternator load would cause the squeal...

I run a single belt to my CS-144, and even when I have every electrical load energized on the car(Fuel Injected, electric fuel pump, mark viii fan, and all other regular loads), I never have squeals. My crank and water pump pulleys are deep-groove, as original, but the a/c and the altenator have regular depth pulleys.
Ensure you get a quality belt, and you want to make sure that the belt sits far enough in the groove such that it makes maximum surface contact.
Even with all that, my squealing problems did not go away until I got the higher quality belt.

I know the belts you speak of... They are about as good as a vee belt gets...

Default Correct belt

This is an old string, but I have the same problem, and came on here to figure out the best installation method. I was planning to go the crank pulley last route, since nothing else made much sense. Glad to know I wasn't out in left field (or at least no more than usual).

As to the belt, I have the black book (assembly manual), and according to that the GM part is 9433722. That converts to a Gates 7350.

Default How to Read Belt Sizes

The last 3 numbers on the belt is the length. Gates, 7445 is a popular belt for chevy alternators. What that interperts as is 7= 7/16, 445= 441/2. Dayco would be 15445, 15= 15/32 and 445= 441/2

For what it's worth, I just used the Dayco belt with no other changes and everything is working well. No second belt needed.
