Default Fuel Filter location?

What is the best location for the fuel filter be before the fuel pump or after it?
Thanks Guys,
Bud

as close to carb as possible.

if you're using an inline w/mechanical pump, then the it should be placed so it can't trap air (vertical) and away from hot engine parts. best place i found was in front of RH head. i'd reccomed not to use a filter with a glass or plastic housing.

I second Turbo-Jet's opinions on this. Never install a filter on the suction side of the pump, or you're just asking for vapor lock problems and high-speed cut-out problems. Get the filter between the pump and the carb, and keep it vertical if possible. This pretty much means you need to install it in the line just forward of the RH cylinder head. Here's a picture of an all-steel line with a screw-on filter that we did for "blkblt" over on the C1/C2 Forum. This type of setup works really well:

Drop me an e-mail if you'd like a copy of the how-to article for building this fuel line and filter assembly:

lars, actually you get most of the credit for my current setup because it was your idea. i polished the top section and it looks very professional and original. others ask me where can they buy a similar setup.

Thank you Guys for the information.
They have mine installed behind the right wheel where the line starts to come up.(before pump).
There isn't a lot of room where it should go, I have AC.
I am also a little concerned with the heat. Should I be?
I use braided fuel hose, but that shouldn't be that much of a problem, as I see that Russell makes one with -6 flare ends.
I can also tell you that I am not thrilled leaving a section of rubber fuel hose where the filter is being removed. I should be replaced it with a piece of steel line.
thanks again,
Bud

Do you need a fuel filter....?? I just put one in but for years it ran without one...I put it horizontal just above the right cylinder head about a foot from the carb
