Default Grille insert alignment help

Boy howdie every step of reassembly is a learning experience! Front bumper would not lign up vertically after painstaking fitting. Discovered that the brackets attaching the front structure for the energy absorber to the radiator support had to be shimmed. Otherwise the steel piece below the edge of the front bumper (fiberglass replacement) pushed the bumper up out of alignment.

Here is where I need help now. When I put the grille insert in, the outer end sits behind the edge of the bumper by an inch. At the inner end, the grille is flush with the edge of the cut out. What gives?

those brackets are pretty flimsy and probably just have to be bent out on the ends. but it's been a while since i did mine

The fiberglass covers don't have as much material in the opening as the urethane covers did, so there is a huge gap because the grille brackets are too short. Here's a trick that will align the grilles perfectly in the opening. It might sound a little Bubba but it works very well. Cut pieces of 3/8" fuel line and use as spacers between the brackets and the grille. You'll need longer screws but cut the hose to the specific length for each mount so the edge of the grille matches the edge of the opening. Very secure, does not loosen, and nobody will know.

Great idea! I was thinking of spacers but had not thought of tubing. If I size the tube right, I can use the stock screw from the front and another from the back.
