Default Quick question on hyd. lifter

Last night when I was installing the valve covers on the engine, I decided (I don't know why) to push on the tip of the rocker arm that is over the pushrod. On the lifters that are on the heel of the cam (no valve event), the lifter compresses slightly. On the ones that are opening valves, the lifters don't compress.

I assume that this is normal because the lifters do not have oil in them yet. Am I correct?

BTW, I already adjusted the valve lash.

Yup normal.

Hydraulic lifters riding on the cam base circle can be compressed with a heavy hand pressure if they are adjusted to the typical zero lash plus a little more turn. You are pushing down against the spring inside the lifter body.
