Question for Lars -- Carburetor for ZZ4.
In my "owners manual" for my ZZ4 motor, GM recommends a Quadrajet with a part number of 17066422. They say it is a service replacement carb. with adjustable idle mixture and electric choke. The say to change out the secondary metering rods to AH (PN 7033812).
What are the specs on that carb ? CFM, Original application?
I have the stock QJet from my 1980 L-48, and I think the number is 17080204. Are these two carbs. comperable?
Re: Question for Lars -- Carburetor for ZZ4. (BSeery)
Lars, I am looking to either send you my carb or get one of those Edelbrock q-jet's What do you recommend? Will the Edelbrock work with my stock 1971 air cleaner?
Brian,
How big is that "Owners Manual"? The place where I got my engine couldn't find it and I was wondering if I could get a copy from you.
Thanks
John

The manual is actually the "H.O. 350 Installation and Service Information" guide made by GM (PN 12485074 Rev . 7/98)

That carb is a general service replacement carb with no specific application - it was never used originally on anything. It is a 750 cfm Q-Jet, and it has fewer emissions provisions on it than your '80 unit. Your '80 carb will, however, run just fine, as its cfm rating is the same. The AH rod is a medium rich rod, and is a pretty safe selection for a moderate performance engine.

theandies -
Your original Q-Jet should be perfectly rebuildable if it's not really screwed up.
Edelbrock offers two styles of Q-Jets: A pre-75 version and a post-75. For your application, just make sure you use the early version carb, and everything should swap right over.
Re: Question for Lars -- Carburetor for ZZ4. (lars)
Lars - The q-jet that I have is fairly "new" so there should be no problems fixing it. It runs good but I think it needs to be setup by someone with more knowledge than I have on q-jets....+ your reputation proceeds you :yesnod: and gives you a little more beer money for your famous Vette weekends. I currently have the divorced style choke and would like to get a little more modern. If I sent you the carb for rebuild and/or tuning do you have the parts to convert it over to electric choke and if so the electric chokes only needs a switched +12VDC source to work right? I think at this point if I buy a new Edelbrock q-jet I'll be divorced style.  I'll have to convince my wife to send you my carb...I'll keep you posted.
Brian - Thanks for the part number on the manual. I think I'll pick one up. Did you get it at a GM parts dealership or did it come with your engine?
