carb/vacuum problem
I have a 81 vette, all stock, that had been sitting for 10 years before i got it. It did NOT run and the carb was a mess so I kitted it. Now it runs if the plug for the primary metering solenoid is disconnected. If it is connected, the car will start and accelerate but will NOT maintain ANY RPM. It will just slowly idle down and die. However, if I place my hand lightly over the primary air opening, I can plug the solenoid back in and it will run.
Any ideas?

I have known only 2 81 owners and they both got rid of the factory carb and distributer (both of which are computer controlled on the 81) and put on a new carb and vac advance distributer and beat the computer that way. They said it solved a lot with their problems. You may want to get some more advice as I havent done it personally.
