Default how much brake fluid?

Hi guys,

I finally got my brake calipers in from vb&p, the first set got damaged and they had to send me another so i've been vetteless for almost a month .

I'm going to install all four calipers with the steel flex lines, i also purchashed a motive power bleeder and i picked up three big bottles of valvoline syn power brake fluid. it says it's compatible with dot 3 and 4 and it's better. the wet and dry boiling points were comparable to the dot 4 bottles but i figured i'd give it a try. my question is.....

How much fluid do i go through before i know i've pretty much flushed all the old dot 3 out? any good indications? or just run 1/2 a quart through on each caliper when bleeding and call it good? thanks!

If you read some of my old posts, you'll see I've been battleing just about every concievable brake problem over the last 6 months. The last problem was the rears, the new lip seals cals were sucking air, so i just changed them both to O-ring calipers. Thing is the rears just kept up with this little stream of air bubbles evey 10-15 secs,, was very frustrating, that was the first bleed. this is what I did on the second. You are going to need a motive prerssure bleeder. What I did was, I set up the pressure bleeder tank to about 15 PSI, then with two hoses and jars, opened both rear bleeder valves and bled them for about 1/4 quart each,, then with the bleeder hooked up and the bleeder valves open, I pulled /pushed both pads inwards towards the calipers, when I did this I got a big air bubble through the fluid and out on both sides,, the same. I Then closed both bleeder valves and stepped on the brakes hard several times (engine off) to re-seat the pads and then repeated the whole process. Not one bubble the second and third time I did this. What I think was happening was that there were large air bubbles trapped behind or under the irregular shapped pistons,, and a little air would break off now and then, giving me the frustrating constant bubbles. This cured it,, brakes are 100% now. Good Luck, C.

Also, keep in mind that the plastic adapter that comes with the motive works does not work very well with the J-hooks, a piece of plywood and 2 good C-clamps will get it tight enough to work w/o leaking though, or you can make what I made,, a steel plate. Thank God my brakes are done. C.

I wouldn't worry too much about how much brake fluid. Just keep flushing until it comes out clear. If the fluid has been there a while, the old stuff will be light brown.

Before you start flushing, take an old turkey baster and suck all of the old fluid out the master cylinder and refill with fresh fluid.
