Default Shroud Help

I have a 71 Vette that was originally a big block car, but someone put a 350 in it. I have to replace its fan shroud. The current shroud is a big block shroud, number 3956119, and the radiator is the 27 ½” core model. Can someone tell me if I should stick with the big block shroud or would the small block shroud (3956109) be a better fit and work with the big radiator?

Also, what are the physical differences between the two shrouds?

Thanks.

There are more than one type of SB shrouds, so the question is not really answerable as such. If you have an aluminum radiator in a SB , you have no chance to interchange, but if it had automatic or AC on that SB then the shroud will probably interchange fairly easily.

I'm not understanding your reply wombvette. The 3956119 shroud and the 350 were in the car when I bought it although it originally was a 454 car. The 3956119 shroud is wasted so I want to replace it when I put the new 350 in it and there will be no A/C and it has a 4-speed trans. So, getting back to my question, will the 3956109 be a better fit with the 350 or do I need to stay with the 3956119 shroud.

Thanks.

Sorry I didnt read carefully all of the description I guess. What I ment is that a standard 4spd car with no options may have had an aluminum radiator with a metal shroud. If you already have a fiberglass shroud and it fits, I dont see why you dont just stick with the one your have.

The big block shroud will not cover the fan all the way on a 350 sb. Stay with the small block shroud.

Default Thanks

Thanks wombvette and hugie82.

The reason I'm replacing the one that is there is because someone cut it all the way through on one side plus they did some other trimming, which I cannot understand.

The shroud that was in there is a big block shroud, which is the molded one, and it covers the fan, but I think the reason it does is because the 350 that was in the car had a long water pump, which I do not think is stock. Because the engine was set up for the long water pump I kept it that way on the rebuilt motor that is going in it.

As for choosing the shroud, I am concerned about the small block molded shroud not fitting because of the 27.5 inch core radiator. In fact, I think I just figured it out. I looked in Eckler's catalog and noticed the radiator support is different for the heavy duty radiator. Because of the radiator support difference, and because the shroud bolts up to the support, I then looked at the assembly manual and it "APPEARS" I need to stay with the big block shroud because of the radiator support.

If someone can confirm this it would be greatly appreciated

I may have a shroud for you. Mine is off an LT1 car so it has the big radiator and is for a small block. It is brand new. I had it on for 1 year and then went to electric fans. I'll check and see if it is the numbers you want.

Crap! I must have sold it. I can't find it but don't remember selling it. That would probably be the one you are looking for though.

After I wrote that I went back and searched high and low in the basement and garage. Did not come up with anything. I have sold so much recently I can't remember selling that though.

my bb shroud is also cut through on top and bottom. i think previose owner did it for easy removal. it has a bolt on top and bottom with a washer on top and bottom of each to hold it. works great. thanks, nutsy.
