Default Question on head ID numbers.

I have a 69 350 horse 350, 4 speed car with 61,000 actual miles. Today I pulled the valve covers off and the number is 3991492 on the heads, and is also stamped J 9 2. My book says this is a 1970 350 LT1, camel hump with accessory holes, 64cc chambers and straight plugs. Are these the right heads for this car? I suppose the valves are 1.94's since it looks like they do not have the screw in studs, is this correct?

I think that( 3991492) is the 1969 302 Z28 cylinder head. Not 100% sure. I am not an expert on cyl heads numbers.

I thought the 1969 corvette casting for your engine should be either 3927186 or 3927187.

Hopefully a knowledgable 1969 owner will assist with this issue.

Thanks Patrick. The block I have is dated 1969 and it also shows 69 302 Z motor. Now I am going to have to do more investigating to find out what I really have.

Thanks,
greg

Patrick, my book shows casting # 3927186 as a 69 302 head and casting #3947041 and 3947041X as 69 302 heads but not the ones I have. Can someone chime in on this and help me out so I know for sure what I have.

Thanks,
greg

Greg,
the head you have is just a service replacement. The casting date tells you that it was cast during a year that end in "2" so it probably was 1972.

You will need to get the stamped numbers off the block on the pad directly in front of the passenger side cylinder head to identify the block.
