just installed new comp 360# rear spring and 8" bolts. had stock 9 leaf and stock bolts. is this thing going to settle a bunch i hope when i drive it? if so any guesses as to how much. tire is 26" tall and there is 5" to the fender lip from the tire. front came out looking good.

I just did my shocks on my 77 and my ride height went up all around on the car I think about 1 in or more.
I was thinking i have room for more tire now..
I was also hoping that it would settle a little...
My experience with 9 leafs springs has not been good. I ditched it and got the HD 7 leaf spring from vansteel, only it required using shims (which the car had on it originally). Some people here have 9 leafs and have no problem getting it to sit down right. I had the long bolts and by the time I got my sitting where I needed it, the spring was .25 inches from the side wall of the tire.
Now I'm fighting getting both sides equal in the fender well.

Is that a VBP or TRW fiber one? Fiber spring do not settle during time like iron ones do.
This might be a dumb question but how high did you run the nut up on the 8" bolt?
To tell the difference between between the 2 springs is that the TRW spring is a paddle shape as where the VBP spring is the same wideth from one sode to the other.
nut is flush with bottom of bolt, spring must be vbp then. it is same width end to end. has a 1" thick rubber spacer where it mounts to rear cover. can or should i remove it?
I've got the same problem with a TRW spring. I'd sure like to hear an answer to getting the wheel opening gap smaller. Longer bolts?
Exactly. I have 235 60s on the 71 nad had the same thing with a huge gap, looked goofy, might have to experiment with 9 and 10 inch bolts. or get several large washers and just 10" lag bolts with a good 3" of thread and trim off teh extra after you get the height where you want it.
To run longer bolts you might need a shorter spring. I use 10" bolts but I had to cut and recenter my spring. If you use 10" bolts, watch your tire clearance.
Replace the Spring with something else. The stock bolts are 6 1/4 so if you acount for this, with your 5" if height, that's 7" over the rear tire. That doesn't sound right. 10" bolts don't sound like a good idea either. talk to VBP or Van Steel about your problem, on the phone, and get the right part for it.
