Is your buddy aware of the fact that the cross member is not removable on the 4 speed Corvettes?
This is the hardest part to deal with IMO.

If it were a 69 Chevelle, Camaro, ect. then it would be no problem getting it done in an evening because you can unbolt and drop the cross member which makes it much easier.
Some members have done clutch swaps in a few hours so I guess it all depends on the guys doing the work
Good luck!

After you remove the driveshaft and shifter, unbolt the tranny and push it as far back as it will go. Unbolt the bellhousing and remove the trans and bellhouusing at the same time, dropping them in a kind of v. Now the clutch and flywheel are easy to get to.

Have fun Paul

I have been able to remove the transmission mount and bracket while disconnecting the shifter but not removing it. The transmission will slide backwards and you have to rotate it a little but I've been able to remove it without removing the bell housing. Either way it is pretty straight forward and shouldn't take more than a few hours if you have air tools and two sets of hands helping.

Unless you know the exact age of the rest of the clutch components it may be a good idea to at least have a T/O bearing on hand in the event that yours looks worn. It will save a trip to the parts store. Are you going to change the oil in the transmission since you will have it out?

I've seen some flywheels with a dowel pin and some without. If yours has one dont forget to re-install otherwise you could effect balance. My .02

Do you really need a flywheel or just a $20.00 ring gear that sometimes may even just need to be turned over.

buddy postponed until thursday based upon the idea that i need to buy new clutch assembly to replace while we are in there. so i ordered a new 10 spline hays clutch assembly from jegs. the guy on the phone said it was a 10 spline. hope it's right. also had them throw in a new throwout bearing. flipping the ring gear would be an excellent idea in the future. being that the car has sat up for the last 10 years, i would rather spend my money up front and replace what i can now than deal with repeat r&r's in the future. regrading the ring gear; why does the starter only engage half way through the thickness of the ring gear anyway? the clutch only has about 1" of pedal engagement at the end of travel even though the previous owner gave me a reciept showing a mechanic adjusted the clutch.

Yes, it can be done easily in an evening. I replaced the clutch and pressure plate in my '64 during last year's Superbowl halftime show. But I've also done it a few times before, and I have a lift...

my engine is now turning over under the starters power. never, ever...under any circumstances, have too many beers and get crazy with engine cleaning products and a water hose. you will eat the teeth off your ring gear and cause many other problems.
