I just picked up a '69 beautiful Monaco Orange 427/435 roadster, and have driven it three times for a total of about 50 miles. There is an intermitant buzzer sounding from right below the steering wheel inside the dash. It comes on for a while then goes off and then comes back on. It isn't the speedomter speed minder (which works), it isn't the ignition key reminder (which also works when you leave the keys in and open the door), and it isn't the alarm which is activated with a key on the back by the license plate, which also works. I don't think it is the seat belt reminder because the red light goes out when the button is depressed, and I've been using the seat belts. Luckily, I have been driving with the top down and the engine note tends to drown out the buzzing, but at slower speeds and at stops, it is about to drive me nuts. The manual is of no help. Any thoughts are highly appreciated.
An option for the '69 was the "Speed Warning Indicator". Just a thought. Rereading your post, I see you mentioned the "speedometer speed minder". Not sure if that is what you're referring to or not.

Twinray (or anyone else knowlegable on 1969 buzzers), perhaps you can help me though. Here are the various warning/indicators that I know of in my 69:
-Ignition key buzzer (mine sounds like it is coming from the firewall)
-Speed Warning Indicator (mine sounds like it is in the driver's side dash, but distinct from the unknown one)
-Security Alarm (this is clearly in the rear of the car and is more of a horn than a buzz)
That's all I know of.
Do '69s have an audible seatbelt warning buzzer? Or a headlight buzzer?
My seatbelt light on the center dash goes out after I push the button, which I believe to be appropriate, and the unknown buzzer seems to behave completely independently from that button. I haven't used the headlights, so I don't know if there is an audible buzzer for those.

Still sounds like the key buzzer to me. If you can get it to do it again, go out and feel the horn relay on the fender liner in the engine bay and see if this is the source of the buzzing.

Never remember hearing any buzzers but the PO (prior to '73) might have disconnected it (and saved me the trouble ).
Eddie70, thanks, but it defitinely is not the key buzzer. That, as I wrote, is fuctioning properly, when the door is opened and the ignition key is inserted, the sound comes from the engine bay (as you noted). This unknown buzzer is clearly in the dash, intermitantly buzzes while the car is running, but doesn't seem to have any correlation to any particular speed, vibration, instrument, etc. but it is clearly some type of malfunctioning indicator, I just don't know what.
My '75 has a buzzer that comes on if the headlight switch is any position but off with the ignition off. Buzzer is located down by the fuse box. May be coming on if you have some kind of intermittent short.
As a suggestion, pick up a GM service manual covering your car. These manuals are invaluable when working on cars. By tracing a wiring diagram, you will be able to determine the problem. You should be able to find one on Ebay.
I had this buzzer that seemed to be related to the headlight switch. If i pushed the switch in hard it would quit. Then it got to the point where it would still buzz but very light in sound,, mine was down on the fuse box (black box if I remember right). I unplugged, no more buzz....
Now later the headlight switch got to where it wouldn't turn off the parking and side marker lights. I tightened the knurled nut thing up and that held my light switch in tight and now all lights turn off and on (no the lights don't pop up and down automatically yet).
After reading you post you might check for that. I think I'll plug mine back in and see if my tightening switch might have cured my buzzer..
I wonder if the speedo or tach cables don't need to be lubricated. A dried-out whirring metal cable inside a metal shield could well cause a buzzing sound.
Batman, thanks, but this is obviously an electronic buzzer. When it's buzzing (can be at a stop or at full speed) it's the same tone regardless of engine speed.
I have redone the interior of my 69 (which has the speed minder) and I had it torn down to the firewall. There are only two buzzers on a 69 that I can remember seeing. The speed minder (on the left side birdcage, slightly above the left kickpanel), and the key warning buzzer under the hood. It's been a while, so I am thinking there may also be one under the center console somewhere near the ashtray....which would be for the doors? You have an alarm, which I don't have, so I am unfamiliar with that buzzer. Maybe you have some other electrical device that is buzzing, like a noisy relay or something? I am gonna check my AIM and I will re-post after I look.
EDIT: Nope, that thing under the ashtray is the wiper switch relay (which could buzz if the contacts are not pulling in nicely). I think there are only 2 actual buzzers in the car. Not to say something else couldn't be making a buzzing noise, or maybe Bubba put something in there that is now buzzing....
