OK guys, here's the deal. I bought my 72 about a year ago. It has 350 (not original), performer intake, holley street avenger 670, and a pretty large air cleaner. It also had an aftermarket bb hood which let all this stuff fit. The quality of the aftermarket hood is marginal and a year old paint job is starting to peel. I have the original hood I am going to paint and reinstall, but the setup I have will not fit. I have about 1/2" clearance from the top of the carb (no air cleaner) to the original hood when it is closed. What is the best way, performance wise and cost wise, to get my original hood back on my car? Any ideas?
I though about one of these. It is about 2.5" from the base of the carb to the top of the cleaner+stud and nut. That would be pushing it. Do you think this would be ok? Do you know of any that are cheaper?
There needs to be at least about 3/4" clearance over the Holley vent tubes.
The Performer 2101 should fit & good to about 400hp on 350. Maybe you have a high rise like the RPM intake.

Do you mean 3/4" to the top of the air cleaner? And yes, I do have the RPM intake. Would the switch to the 2101 be a downgrade? I was told I was pushing over 400 HP, and I would rather not lose any peformance if I can help it.
Over the vent tubes would be to underside of air cleaner lid. LT-1/BB hood is really the min. for hgh rise like RPM.
HP- Do you know cam specs., heads & does it have headers?
Hi mateo279,
For what it's worth, I put a GM LT1 highrise intake on the motor I built, along with a 4150 Holley and the stock aircleaner - is it what folks call a drop center? I think the Performer RPM is an approximtation of the LT1. When it was all together, I put dabs of Playdough on the top of the air cleaner and closed the STOCK, not LT1, hood and found I had about 1/2" of clearance at the closest point. The rim of the air cleaner is flush with the top of the chrome box covering the distributor now, I think it was about 1/2 inch lower with the stock base motor setup. Here's a photo http://www.myruffhouse.com/images/1969_Corvette_10.jpg (Please ignore the C4 logo, it has been replaced with a C3 crossed flag logo.)
So I would say, give it a try and see if your stock hood fits with what you have now.
I was just pricing this exact carb/manifold for mine. could you supply a picture (eye level) showing how high it sits above the fender ?
and how happy are you with the carb/intake?
--sorry, not trying to hijack your thread
I don't have a picture but it performs very well. If you are interested, I may be selling this intake to get a lower profile one if I can't get an air cleaner to fit. I can try to snap a picture this weekend for you.

much interested. thanks
just something I could gauge carb height in relation to hood height on mine.
So after looking at every imaginable air cleaner assembly known to man, I have found that if I want my original hood to fit, i will need a new intake manifold to replace the performer RPM I have now. Just for clarity, I have a Holley street avenger 670 cfm, edelbrock aluminum heads. I have had a suggestion for a edelbrock 2101. Are there any other good products/brands that could lower the assembly to letmy hood fit and retain or improve upon the performance I have now?
