My engine currently has a gear drive timing set and I hate the noise. Any have a suggestion for who makes a good chain set to fit under a stock cover on a 427? Also is there any thing I need to know before making the swap. Thanks for the help.
How hard is it to get the harmonic balancer back on? I am not able to turn it over with the starter right now, how should I get it lined up to #1? I do not really want to mess with the engine, but I hate the gears they make sooo much noise!!!

The good balancer pullers also double as a balancer installation tool. Using the tool, you simply crank the balancer back on - no problem. The sweet setup - one that I use - is Summit part number PRO-66514. This tool easily removes and installs the balancer, making the whole operation a piece of cake.
To get the engine over onto TDC, just put a socket and a breaker bar on the harmonic balancer bolt. If you have a 4-speed, you can put the car in 2nd gear and just rock it to make the engine turn over. Pull the distributor cap off and watch it as the rotor comes around to the #1 firing position and then line up your balancer marks with "0". At this point, the timing gear marks will both point straight up at the 12:00 position (not towards each other as some aftermarket shop manuals show). Yank it all off and install your new stuff.

You may have to cut the corners of the timing cover gasket groove. So the cover can fit between the oil pan and guide pins without pushing the gasket out. Loosen the pan bolts the best you can to avoid this.
