Default E-brake Cable Spring Location

This question will confirm my rookie rebuilder status, so please bear with me. Have e-brake all rebuilt, finding many good photos and info on subject,(great how to at corvettemagazine.com). So now I am ready to install new cable, but cannot find picture to show exactly where the spring on the end of each side of the cable should be positioned. A site I refer to for pictures("The Corvette Restoration Page") clearly shows the spring positioned between the nylon cable guide and the very end of cable where it connects to the lever that actuates the parking brake assembly. My feeling is this does not look right, that the spring should be down at the other end where rubber boot is and run from the rubber boot up to the nylon cable guide. If anyone could set me straight here, I would appreciate it. I could not find a diagram or picture that illustrated proper spring placement.
Thanks!

Just finished one e-brake and the spring is indeed between the nylon cable guide and the brake lever. I believe its purpose in life is to hold the cable ball tight in the brake lever. If the sping is in the location between the guide and the boot there is nothing to keep the end of the cable from falling out out the e-brake lever.

By the way rebuilding the e-brake was a real bear.

They're pretty easy if you have the whole T/A apart.
