steering box adjustment
I have the steering box off on my 73 & was adjusting today. I set to 7 inch pounds torque through the turning sweep & 14-15 inch pounds over the "center". It feels smooth when turning on the shaft, but when I turn it from the steering "arm" it feels a little clunky or serrated like. but again from the input shaft it is smooth. Also what grease should I pack this with? thankx

The clunky sensation you are feeling means the gears inside the box are worn out. If you adjust the box properly and you feel what you are describing, you are ready for a gearbox overhaul. Gary Ramadei is highly recommended for doing this. I'll post a link to a related thread soon.

thanx for the info guys, I will disassemble the box, inspect & clean then see what needs to be done. Gary's step by step was very good & I may end up sending the box to him.
