Centrifical clutch

I checked my fan clutch yesterday (engine off) and the fan moved freely but had a substantal drag on it. It is my understanding that the blades of the fan should move quite freely, almost to a point of being able to spin the blades, right or wrong? How should those blades move?

That is incorrect, the only time the fan should spin more than a half turn is if the engine is Cold. With the engine running and hood up, turn the engine off and watch the fan, if it spins more than a half turn or so the clutch is bad.

I got it guys...thanks for the reply.

The fan operates as it should so during the winter it's a clean up and re-install.

Make sure you store your fan clutch in the same position it is in the engine compartment, you can lose fliud out of the clutch if it isn't stored correctly.
