Default Early or Late?

Does anyone know how to tell the difference if a car is a 78 early or 78 late? I am looking at changing my ignition key out and there are two different switches one for the early and one for the late.

I have also noticed this on some parts for the 79. I dont know what the month cut off is for the parts?

The Only Information That I Have On Hand At This Time Of Day Is...that ...40,0274 Coupe Were Produced And 6,502 Pace Car Coupes For A Total Of 46,776 Units.

This Maybe A Little Over Simplified But If You Divided The Production Number By 12 Months....That Would Give You An Idea Of The Possible Monthly Production Rate.... Take Your V.I.N. And See Where It Fits In The Sequence ...(Assume August As Month 1).... From A Numbers Point Of View....it Would Seem That Febuary/March, Would Be The Dividing Line, Between Early And Late?

Sorry but I have never heard of 78's being referred to early or late?

The trim code will give you the approximate build date (this is the date the body passed the point on the assembly line where the trim plate was installed. At this point the body was not mated to the chassis thats why it is approximate).

The codes are:
A...sept 1977
B...oct
..
..
E january 1978
etc. to August
The other 2 numbers represent the day of the month. ie 06, 13, etc.
Mine is I15- May 15, 1978

Maybe they are looking for 1977 builds as early and 78 as late?

Does anyone know if Doc Rebuild has published his wiring book for the 78 models yet? I've been to his site and it says its on its way. I need it now, I pulled my dash and its like spaghetti under there with all the old stereo and shortcuts, I am keeping the battery disconnected until I figure it out.

Default Call Ecklers

I had no idea whether my 77 vette was early or late. The sales guy asked me the last four numbers of my VIN and told me it was LATE..........

When it comes to early or late on C3s there's never a real dividing line in production that you can look at. My Vette was built on 4/29/76 but everything I've ever needed for it was early. Changes came at all times of the year, and some overlap years. '76s built in August were full of '77 parts............
