O.K. I've heard lots about changing the fuel pump in my '82 CE to a pump for an '85. Is it worth it and if so what sort of performance should I expect from it? Thanks for everyones help...

Try these guys for info. I'm in the process of doing this now on my 82. The owners of this site/company are members on the crossfire forum. http://www.crossfireinjection.net/
1 of the owners of this site is on this forum also, his name is buccaneer, great guy by the way. On the crossfire vault forum he is buccaneer also. http://www.crossfire.homeip.net/
First you buy the gauge setup that bolts right into the TBs on your CE. This will tell you what fuel press youre running at. Depending on mileage probably about 10-11 psi or so. It has been determined that these cars run better at 14psi. Your stock 82 pump will struggle to make 13 consistently, hence the 85 pump is needed. Second buy the adjustment tool so you can adjust the fuel pressure regulator located on the rear throttle body. You need the special tool to be able to do this. Reminder: $70 for the gauge setup, $50 for the tool. Now lastly you need the 85 fuel pump, another 100 bux or so. Available from ecklers etc. Once you have it all set for 14psi youre ready to go. I'm not finished with mine yet but everyone says a noticeable performance increase, especially at higher rpms is achieved. Might even get better fuel mileage due to a more even spray pattern.

My friend did this swap on his '84. He says the performance difference is noticeable. I think the TPI pump is still available from GM. Pretty much a bolt-in swap. The GM kits include the pigtail if you need it.

You should see better performance once you set the FP to 14psi. You won't get the slight stumble anymore when you nail it and your top end should improve as well. If your motor currently seems to run out of power at 4k or slightly higher, its more than likely the FP is too low and the motor is running too lean and out of gas. The 85 pump is a good direct swap mod to do on a CF and is very common mod on CF motors.
I would finish the job if you know how by doing a good balance job on the TBs and reset the TPS to .525v and readjust the idle. You may see an even better MPG as well.

Good luck and post your results.
