1981 Gauge Problem
What do you think this problem is. Turn on the headlights or parking lights and the fuel and amp gauges go all the way to the left. Fuel goes to empty and amp goes to 40-.
Turn the lights off and everything works fine.

That sounds like a simple fix. Your plug in the back of the center guage cluster has probably shifted. Light circuit is making contact with guage circuit. simpler then is sounds...one prong on the plug is probably touching 2 stands on the circuit board.
Easiest way to fix is by removing the center cluster. Unplugging the harness. Plugging the harness back in. Testing with lights on while is unassembled. then ressemble.
Or try the bubba way. Reach your hand up around the back...probably have to remove one of the side panels or stereo and give it a gentle wiggle.
