Went out for a drive today, car running great. Rounded a corner and the car abruptly quit. i could turn it over and was getting spark, but no start. I looked down in the primaries, and I could see fuel shooting into the barrels. I let the car sit for a few minutes, and it would start and run great, then die after about ten seconds. it seems like fuel delivery, maybe a bad fuel pump. It doesn't act like vapor lock. I had it towed home (thank you AAA) and now it starts, idles, and runs good again.??? Any thoughts?
I suggest applying the car-guy's version of "Occam's Razor." He said that the simplest solution is usually the right one.
My version is, "the simplest and CHEAPEST solution is the right one..."
Check your fuel filter, at the carb. The loaded engine has a higher fuel consumption, then when it's idling in your garage, even if you blip the throttle.
Check the filter- if it's good, THEN look at the pump.

Probably not ready to Say R.I.P.
Towing again wont be Fun, so the advice from peanut gallery is Go the extra Mile..at least, Open the Float Bowls Inspect for anything that would stick the Needle & seat Open, Like minute dirt! thats all it takes. Test the Float, Its gotta Bob Like a Cork, No Sinking allowed. Reset The float to specs and Reassemble. If the Tank and lines are Clean, Likely It Wont repeat, But good to go the Gamut with it. Trying to fix On the side of the road sucks and Fire becomes an issue doing it that way too.
Good Luck.
Put my money on dirt, which stuck open the needle valve. If you worry it may happen again, remove the needle, place a rag over the hole and blow it out with an airgun. Clean the needle and reinstall it.
Thanks for the advice. It all sounds plausible. I will let you know the outcome of my maintenance. I was only 1 mile from home and my car was back in my garage in less than an hour. The AAA rep just bought an 86 Coupe, so he was really chatty, and the tow truck driver was a Corvette fan, so he treated my baby with kid gloves!
