When I bought this car it had a long L-88 hood. They also did away with the hood the latchs. Anyway I have short L-88 hood now and all the wiper door parts and latches. My problem is the hood keeps poping up when I go over on even road or bumps. I have adjusted it every way I can think any ideas. Thanks John
John; The latches work the best when they are centered. Cover the latch hole with some masking tape and put a dab of grease on the pins. Then lower the hood just enough to transfer the grease to the tape. This will let you know if you are centered. My 68 hood used to pop open all the time until I adjusted it this way. Good Luck, Craig
I must have adjusted my 68 hood latches 100 times and the hood would still pop up - very often at the bottom of my steep driveway, just from the twist of going from the steep angled driveway to the street! The pins are adjustable lengthwise (you screw them in and out). I had adjusted mine in (shorter) so the hood lined up perfectly with the wiper door. Unfortunately, the hood was also making contact with the ignition shielding wingnuts which cracked the hood very slightly. This also kept the hood from staying shut! (ouch - to think every time I dropped the hood I was dropping it on the wingnuts!!) I lengthened the pin and the hood stays shut - even if it isnt lined up perfectly.
With your L-88 hood your concerns are different, but just be real aware of the clearances as you adjust the latches!
And BTW, although my hood stays latched, I am now having the same problem with the pins at the back of my convertible top!! They keep popping out! MJ :mad
