Default 72 radiator

Just began pulling my engine and when I pulled the radiator I discovered where my anti-freeze smell was coming from. I can see a slight wet spot about an inch up from the bottom(a greenish tint wet spot). The radiator looks perfect otherwise. This is still a mumbers matching car and a replacement is going to break the bank since I have saved just enough to rebuild the engine.
Any help or advice is appreciated.

Have it rebuilt. I broke the petcock off of mine and it cost $60 to have it repaired, repainted and pressure checked.

Its one of those things where they try to sell you a new one because it needs this and that but just tell them to fix it.

Who can fix this radiator? My local radiator shop said it can't be fixed. It still works fine except it has one spot that apears to "sweat" a little antifreeze! Need help!!

Yes ... it's a near certainty it can be fixed. But nobody can begin to point you where to go until we know about where you are. Fill out your profile with an approximate location.

Is the radiator aluminium or copper? Aluminium can rarely be repaired, copper can often be repaired. Old Harrison aluminium radiators start to weep because they get thin from oxidation and are really tough to repair successfully. Check out DeWitt Radiator's site for various replacement possibilities for both kinds.

Alan

The fact is GM never thought aluminum radiators would last ten years, yet 35 years. When they pop a hole somewhere, that usually means the whole radiator is done. It's kinda like dragging a chain on concrete until it's worn completely through and one link breaks. Fixing that link isn't going to fix the chain.
If you can't afford the real restoration radiator ($795) you could get one of our replacement aluminum radiators we call "Direct Fit". ($525) They are still more money than the copper replacements but the btu ratings of the copper units just don't cut it.
