My left side electric window stopped working abruptly as I was winding the window down.
I have used a test lamp and found that the switch seems fine and there is power to the electrical connectors at the window motor.
I am now guessing the motor has developed a problem - looks like the original 30 year old unit.
Would someone please be kind enough to explain how I remove the electric motor from inside the door so that I can replace it?
Thanks
It could be the wiring in the door conduit causing the problem. I just replaced mine because the window was not working properly. Sometimes it would not go up or down...etc. If it is the motor, there are 3 screws that hold the motor in place and I believe they are 7/16 in size. Just remove those screws and you can weave the motor out!! Either way, you will have to remove the door panel. I have attaced a link that may help you with that.. Good luck, Tab
I've removed the door panel without causing any damage, just not exactly sure where to start on the electric motor. I can see a couple of bolts, some inside the door and some accessible with the panel removed.
Just don't want to start blindly undoing things and find that I've dropped the mechanism inside the door without needing to.
Anyone done an electric window motor replacement recently?
Have checked the wires in the door jam and also at the motor, we have power.
Got into the door this afternoon and removed the three bolts holding the motor in place but having trouble getting the motor out of the door.
Is there a trick to doing this? Can't see anything else that can be easily removed to make this job easier.
Would some one who's replaced a window motor in a c3 please lend a hand?
When you remove the motor from the regulator(where its mounted)the glass will fall down.I use 2 plastic C-clamps to hold glass up.Once the motor is free from the regulator the motor should come right out.

Thanks guys, I'll give it a go. The clamps might do the trick, was wondering if the weight of the window might have been making it difficult to remove the motor from it's gear.
What a great photo, many thanks for posting for me. Help put the things that I've only felt into perspective.
I sat on the floor of my garage and peered into the door cavity - finally realising that if I loosened the lower bolt on the window regulator, I could free the motor without damaging anything. This way I didn't put the window mechanism out of alighment or have to worry about the spring shooting out.
Now I have a dead window motor sitting on my work bench and have to decide whether to source a new one from the States or find a local tradesman who will recondition this one.
Many thanks to the guys that were able to reply to my post, much appreciated.
GM still sells them. Do you have a GM dealer near you?
You can also try opening it up and cleaning it. Its pretty basic technology. did you try running power to it to make sure its not something else? They don't go often.
You can also try googling the part number on it. I think you will find it was used in more then just the Vette.
If you want some help on the search. Post the part number.

I bought mine from Advanced Auto (US of course) for $38.00 per motor. They are reman ones but seem to work fine. Not sure if you can order those via their Web Page or not... maybe something to check in to... Good Luck, Tab
This motor was used by GM for along time. You may find one in a salvage yard. You just have to check the mounting bosses some differ. If I remember right I took all four out of a 78 Seville. Like the PO said for these motors to go bad is rare. I would clean the connector and the terminals in the harness. I had that problem.
The reason to see the other side is that i need to replace the bushing
in my manual crank widow regulator and i'd like to see if i can handle it and what parts i may need in advance... Thank You!

Its going to be different. The picture is for a power window. See the picture above...the three screws that hold the plate over the motor? You have something different behind there. I think the part below is in the round hole to the far left http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...3&dept_id=1661
